Ken Hunt
Partner

Ken Hunt has an MBA and law degree from Wake Forest University. His core training was in consumer goods marketing which ultimately led to general management in both large Fortune 200 corporations and in smaller growth companies. Ken has experience securing, and managing millions of dollars in commercial deals, government contracts, grants, and venture capital. He is also a registered lobbyist, enabling him to secure government funding on behalf of his clients.

Ken has been Managing Partner for The HMC Company since June, 2005. Prior to joining the HansonMaslen group, Ken was CEO of Anawah, a Seattle based agricultural biotechnology company that is now part of Arcadia BioSciences. As CEO, Ken was responsible for securing capital, overall management, and business development. During Ken's tenure, Anawah raised $14M in venture capital, over $4M in non-dilutive government contracts, and just under $1M in commercial research funding. Anawah's main focus is development of products providing consumers with foods that are more nutritious, better-tasting, and longer lasting than currently available.

Prior to Anawah, Ken was VP of Business Development, Strategy and Corporate marketing for Paradigm Genetics. Ken's role was maintaining and securing revenue generating deals, developing strategic business plans for new business opportunities, and the overall marketing and communications function. Paradigm focused on determining the function of all plant and fungal genes for use primarily in the agriculture space. Paradigm generated $20M a year in revenue primarily from contracts with Bayer CropSciences and Monsanto.

Ken held three roles with Monsanto: Director of Marketing-Brand Development, Nutrition Sector for Monsanto, where he had core marketing responsibilities for two breakthrough nutritional products - Stanols which reduces cholesterol and Peptides which lowers blood pressure; Director of Business Development, Genomics, where he facilitated relationships with some of Monsanto's venders including, Paradigm Genetics, Mendel, Incyte, and Rosetta and; Director of Business Development Agricultural Fibers, where he was responsible for the commercialization of genetically modified fiber crops including blue, black, and brown cotton for the textile industry and uses of nonwood cellulose for paper and energy. Prior to Monsanto, Ken was Director of Marketing, Sara Lee Knit Products, where he created and implement strategic plans for product development, marketing, and sales of $215 MM of product for the #1 woman's apparel brand to Wal Mart, K Mart, and other mass discount retailers. Ken also served as Director of Licensed Products for the $40M a year sports and entertainment industries, marketing apparel with properties such as NFL, NBA, MLB, and NASCAR. Ken rose through the marketing ranks at Sara Lee from intern to Marketing Manager in the Printables business which sold blank goods to screen printers and embroiderers predominantly under the Hanes Beefy-T brand.
